Experience and a Proven Track Record
Mesa Verde Publishing (MVP) is an award-winning academic publisher that develops reference book manuscripts for print and online reference book publishers in the field of history, political science, and education.
MVP and its founders, Lauren and Steven Danver, have been involved in both online and print academic publishing for over fifteen years, and in that time have worked on literally hundreds of different projects. Many of our published titles have gone on to win prestigious academic awards. MVP works with scholarly reference, textbook, and journal publishers, as well as with university presses to produce innovative academic resources of the highest quality.
The experience of Mesa Verde Publishing’s partners has given them the knowledge and expertise to successfully produce manuscripts for your projects. Steven Danver has both the academic background (Ph.D. in history from the University of Utah) and twenty years of experience managing the development of reference books. Lauren Danver brings the administrative skills built up over twenty-plus years in business administration. Together, they are able to develop manuscripts that are academically sound, written and organized in an easy-to-use way, and produced on time and within budget.
Historical Interpretations Distilled for Nonspecialists
These days, the demands on people’s time don’t allow them to read as much as they used to. Even college students are less and less able to devote enough time to a topic to read through an entire academic book, unless it is a core part of their studies. Reference encyclopedias and handbooks allow college students, high school students, and any other interested readers to quickly find information on specific topics and place that information in the historical context necessary for understanding.
Although academic historians are excellent at researching and writing about new discoveries and interpretations of history, it takes an additional set of skills to make those discoveries and interpretations relevant and accessible to nonspecialists. We bring those skills sets to our academic projects.
Flexibility: Complete Project Management or Outsource a Portion to Us
MVP has extensive experience in every aspect of the publishing process, from the development of ideas; to vetting them with academic and library professionals; to working with our worldwide team of scholars to develop, write, and edit the manuscript; to deep involvement and oversight of the entire production process that takes the manuscript and turns it into ready-to-publish files.
We can manage as much of this process as you would like for us to help you with. In addition, we have over twenty years of experience managing the publication of academic journals, from commissioning articles, to editing all content, to directing the permissions, copyediting, layout, and other aspects of the production process.
Steven Danver also engages in consulting with academic publishers wishing to chart the future of publishing both in terms of subject areas and format, with academic authors looking for advice on publishing.
